Abstract:Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.), an important economic crop, can be used as spices, medicine and flavoring. It propagates through the form of underground rhizomes mainly. Since ginger tissue culture succeeded in 1977, the technology in micropropagation of the disease_free ginger has already been made great progress and the efficiency has been obviously improved. Every bud proliferated 7.7 shoots after 4 weeks culture, and plantlets survived at above 95% after transplanting to the field. In this paper we reviewed the development of the multiplication technique of disease_free ginger and its application prospects, such as creation of genetic variation, conservation of plant geneplasm in vitro, production of disease_fre
e encapsulated buds and microrhizome in vitro.
