Abstract:Mitochondria are the major sources of cellular energy and reactive oxygen species (ROS), which play fundamental roles in regulation of cell survival and death. Mitochondria are also the important targets vulnerable to external stimulations. It is known that the damage effects of PM2.5 on mitochondria might be related to the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore and the unbalance of mitochondrial dynamics, which have been widely studied in the field of environment and medicine. Therefore, the mechanism of mitochondrial damage induced by PM2.5 is reviewed to provide scientific data for the further research on mechanisms of PM2.5 toxicity.
