Agapetes lobbii C. B. Clarke (Ericaceae), A Newly Recorded Species from Vietnam

越南杜鹃花科新记录——深裂树萝卜

全 文 :The family Ericaceae, consisting of about 125
genera and 4000 species, is widely distributed in
temperate and subarctic regions, also at high elevations
in tropical regions[1]. The genus Agapetes D. Don ex G.
Don (Ericaceae, Vaccinioideae) comprises ca. 100 species
distributed from the Himalayan region to southwest
China and mainland southeastern Asia[1].
In Vietnam, the genus Agapetes was taxonomically
studied by several authors[2–8] and there are 7 species
recorded previously[5]. In the course of examining the
specimens of Agapetes in HN, one specimen (HAL9889)
collected from Ta Phin Village, Sin Ho District, Lai
Chau Province in North of Vietnam in 2006 draw our
attention. It is very different from all the known species
from Vietnam by having scattered leaves, petiole 3 –
5 mm, glabrous racemose inflorescence 3 – 8 cm long,
peduncle 0.6 – 1.3 cm long, pedicel 0.5 – 1.5 cm long,
somewhat expanded apically, subglobose calyx tube
for ca. 2 mm long (Figs. 1, 2). After comparing it with
the species from neighboring countries, we confirmed
that it is Agapetes lobbii C. B. Clarke, a new record
for the flora of Vietnam.

Abstract: Agapetes lobbii C. B. Clarke (Ericaceae), a species previously known only from India, Myanmar,
Thailand and China, is newly recorded from Vietnam. It was found in Lai Chau Province, North Vietnam and the
vouchers are kept in the herbarium of Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, Hanoi, Vietnam (HN).
