Abstract:The study of using vertical pointing searchlight trap for monitoring the dynamics of Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guenée were conducted at Xing‘an County in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from 2007 to 2009. The results showed that the vertical pointing searchlight trap could monitor the population dynamics of C.medinalis effectively. The peaks of catches on the vertical pointing searchlight-trap were more than that of the Jiaduo light trap. The vertical pointing searchlight trap could catch much more moths than Jiaduo light trap, including the immigration, passing and emigration airborne populations of C.medinalis. So that the peaks of catches on the two kinds of traps and the ovarian developmental level of the female in the vertical pointing searchlight trap would be able to determine the characteristics of C.medinalis. According to this method, three case studies of immigration, passing and emigration airborne populations of C.medinalis were conducted in this paper.
