Abstract:The biological characters of Leymus chinensis and Leymus cinereus and their hybrid were studied. The main results showed that in comparison with parents, the hybrid F1 had superiority in growth vigour, leaf (width and)length, spike width and length. The heterosis of the hybrid F1 is evinced by its leaf area, the (ratio of stem)weight and leaf weight and grass yield, and over-high parent heterosis was 50.0%, 27.8% and 20.9% respectively. F1 is inferior to its parents in tillering ability by 5.7%, while its heterosis exhibits in (crude protein), nitrogen free extract, crude ash and Ca element, which exceed those of its parentsby 0.71%, (1.0%,)22.72%, and 10.00%, respectively.
