Abstract: Two rust taxa of Uromyces on Fabaceae collected from Inner Mongolia of China are reported. Uromyces punctatus var.
dahuricus on Astragalus dahuricus is described as new variety. Uromyces yatsugatakensis on Hedysarum alpinum is recorded as
new to China. Morphological descriptions and illustrations are provided based on Inner Mongolian collections. The collections
are deposited in the Mycological Herbarium of Chifeng University, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia (CFSZ), and the Herbarium
Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae, Beijing (HMAS).

A comprehensive list of Inner Mongolian
species of Uromyces was published by Liu et al.
(2014), in which 30 species were reported. The
following additional notes are resulted from a study
of the specimens of Uromyces collected from Inner
Mongolia on plants of Fabaceae.

This variety was previously determined by Liu et
al. (2014) as Uromyces punctatus J. Schröt. (1872). It
differs from var. punctatus in the more number (4−8,
mostly 6, scattered) of the urediniospore pores,
while var. punctatus has 3−5 equatorial or scattered
urediniospore pores (Schröter 1872; Sydow & Sydow
1910; Ito 1950; Wilson & Henderson 1966; Azbukina
2005; Zhuang et al. 2003). It closely resembles
Uromyces jordianus Bubák on the same host genus
commonly distributed in Central and East Europe but
still unknown in Siberia and Central Asia; the latter is
distinguished by the 6−8 scattered urediniospore

Telia epiphyllous or rarely hypophyllous,
scattered or gregarious, rounded, 0.1–0.6mm diam.,
naked, blackish brown, pulverulent; teliospores
ellipsoid, obovate or subglobose, rounded at both
ends, (17.5–)19−27.5×(12.5–)15–17.5μm, wall

Part of collections cited were erroneously
determined by Liu et al. (2014) as Uromyces
hedysari‐obscuri (DC.) Carestia & Picc. characterized
by the uredinia with peridium like aecia but without
associated spermogonia and aeciospore‐like
urediniospores. This species was previously known

in Japan and Russian Far East. In the original
description of Hiratsuka (1935) the size of
urediniospores is given as 22–27×18–24μm, but the
urediniospore pores are not mentioned. Azbukina
(2005) described urediniospores having 6 scattered
germ pores.
