Abstract:The comparative anatomy of the pinnae of six species, namely, Cycas ferruginea, C. miquelii, C. szechuanensis,C. hainanensis,C. fairylakea and C. guizhouensis in China, was studied. The results indicate that C. ferruginea differs obviously from C.miquelii in hypodermal sclerenchymatous cells, crystal cells among the spongy cells, raised midrib region, the morphology of leaf margin and phloem, and absence or presence of secretory canal.C. szechuanensis is very similar to C. hainanensis and C.fairylakea, and the latter two are more close to each other. C.guizhouensis differs from C. szechuanensis,C. hainanensis and C. fairylakea in raised midrib region, the morphology of leaf margin and phloem. The view that C. ferruginea and C.miquelii are independent species is supported in this paper. The differences between C. hainanensis and C. fairylakea scarcely exist. C. szechuanensis is closed to C. hainanensis and C. fairylakea. C. guizhouensis is distant from the other species.
