Abstract:Populus alba is widely planted in northeast China and seriously infected with a rust fungus. In this study, the causal rust fungus of Populus alba was identified as Melampsora laricis based on its morphological characteristics and life cycle. Its spermogonial and aecial stages on Larix kaempferi and L.olgensis were confirmed by inoculations with basidiospores produced on P. alba.
