umbrosa is described as new species. Puccinia acetosae var. thyrsiflori on Rumex thyrsiflorus is described as a new variety.
Morphological descriptions and illustrations are provided. The collections are deposited in the Mycological Herbarium of
Chifeng University, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia (CFSZ), and the Herbarium Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae, Beijing (HMAS).

incrassatis), (27−)30−45(−50)×15−22(−27.5)μm
metientibus, longius pedicellatis (usque ad 65μm,
raro ad 85μm); sporis statim germinantibus flavidis
vel incoloratis, (17.5−)25−38(−42.5)×10−20μm,
aliquantum tenuiter tunicatis (ad latera 1−1.5μm
crassis, ad apicem 2.5−7.5μm incrassatis), brevius
pedicellatis (tantum usque ad 35μm).
Telia amphigenous, also on petiole and stems,
scattered or crowded, rounded or nearly rounded,
0.2−2.5mm diam., naked. Telia and teliospores of
two forms: telia of resting form chestnut‐brown,
pulverulent; those of germinating form grayish,
pulvinate and compact, sometimes surrounded by
resting telia; teliospores of resting form
fusiform‐ellipsoid, elongate‐ellipsoid or fusiform,
yellowish brown, (27−)30−45(−50)×15−22(−27.5)μm,
apex rounded and papilloid, attenuate below, not or
slightly constricted at the septum, walls 1.5−2.5μm
thick at sides, 4−7.5μm thick apically, pore of the
upper cell apical or slightly depressed, of the lower
cell near the septum, with yellowish papilla, pedicels
colourless or palely yellowish, fragile, up to 65μm
long, occasionally to 85μm; teliospores of
germinating form almost similar to those of resting
form but colourless or palely yellowish,
(17.5−)25−38(−42.5)×10−20μm, with thinner walls
(1−1.5μm thick at sides, 2.5–7.5μm thick apically)
and shorter pedicels (only up to 35μm long);
basidiospores globoid or ovoid, 5−10×5–7.5μm, wall
less than 1μm thick, colourless, smooth.

This species is separable from hitherto known
species of Puccinia on Lamiaceae (Labiatae) by
producing biform telia and teliospores, resting form
and germinating form. Puccinia excelsa Barclay (see
Sydow & Sydow 1904; Cao & Li 1999; Cao et al. 2000;
Azbukina 2005) and Puccinia phlomidis Thüm. (1878;
see also Sydow & Sydow 1904; Gäumann 1959;
Zhuang et al. 2003; Azbukina 2005) on the same
host genus are very close to this species, but the
former is micro‐form producing only resting telia,
and the latter is opsis‐form producing aecia and telia
and lacking uredinia. One specimen of P.
phlomidicola (CFSZ 24) has previously been
identified as and confused with P. excelsa Barclay
(Liu et al. 2004).

This variety is characterized by its equatorial or
sub‐equatorial germ pore of the lower cell of the
teliospores. The pore of the lower cell of teliospores
in Puccinia acetosae (Schumach.) Körn. var. acetosae
is near the septum. (Arthur 1934; Wilson &
Henderson 1966; Hiratsuka et al. 1992).
