Abstract:Sitotroga cerealella Olivier is an important storage insect pest. Transgenic Bt rice provides a new tool for S.cerealella control. KMD1, a transgenic Bt rice developed by Zhejiang University and expressing Cry1Ab protein, were evaluated for resistance to S.cerealella. Bioassay was carried out in laboratory using artificial rearing with insect-free rice grain which was equilibrated to 14%-15% water content at 75%±5%RH. Under the conditions of 28±1℃ and 75%±5%RH, we evaluated transgenic Bt rice resistance to S.cerealella. According to the difference between transgenic Bt rice and it’s control on survival rate, the number of progenies, loss rate, Dobie’s susceptible index, and other development indexes, transgenic Bt rice significantly prevents the development of S.cerealella with survival and loss rates of 13% and 12%, respectively. Dobie’s index was significantly low than control. This indicates that Bt rice grain are significantly resistant to S.cerealella.
