Abstract:These experiments found out the principal conditions for effectively storing Hopea hainanensis seeds, which are, as the key, the dermination and maintaining of seed water content within safe ranges, 33—35% for smaller ones, 36—38% for bigger ones, the lower storage temperature at 15—20℃, and the slow ventilation resulting the air O2 content within 10—15%. It was suggested that the measures assure these storage conditions from experiments. The chief chemical composition of kernels, the changes of seed and medium water content, seed vigor, seed respiration, and catalase or dehydrogenase activity in hypocotyls, during storage period were determinate. The experiment of test had proved that controlling seed water content within 35—38%, storage temperature at about 18℃, the high quality seeds still remained GP above 80% after storing more than a year.
