Abstract:Abstract A novel cardenolide ( 1 ) and five known compounds ( 2 - 6 ) were isolated from the acetone soluble fraction of the alcohol extract of rhizome of Periploca forrestii by means of column chromatography. The structures were established as 8-hydroxy-periplogenin (3β, 5β, 8β, 14β-tetrahydroxy-card-20(22) -enolide)( 1 ), periplogenin( 2 ), periplocin( 3 ), glycoside E of Periploca septum ( △5 pregnene 3β, 17α, 20α-triol-20-0-α-D-canaropyranoside) ( 4 ), daucosterol( 5 ) and ursolic acid ( 6 ) respectively on the basis of UV, IR, MS, high resolution NMR analyses and chemical evidences.
