ABSTRACT　An intermediate between Cymbidium lancifolium Hook.and C.ensifolium (L.)Sw.is described
as a new hybrid of them:C.× oblancifolium I.J.Liu et S.C.Chen.It is widespread in southern Sichuan
Province in southwestern China.After being introduced into cultivation , it remains steady in its character and in-
dicates remarkable growth.It also exhibits great aesthetic values.

　A potted orchid flowered recently in Wutongshan
Nursery , Shenzhen , Guangdong Province , which
has been collected from southern Sichuan.It looks
like an intermediate between Cymbidium lancifolium
Hook.and Cymbidium ensifolium (L.)Sw., with
oblong-ovoid or ovoid pseudobulbs and oblanceolate
leaves that are obviously petiolate towards the base.
This entity is treated here as a new hybrid of the two
aforementioned species that are also found in south-
ern Sichuan of China.

cm longis basi non petiolatis scapo (20 ～ )25 ～ 40
cm longo , illud pseudobulbis cylindricis 3 ～ 15 cm
longis scapo 8 ～ 20 cm long bracteis 10 ～ 15 mm
longis.
　Terrestrial pseudobulbs oblong-ovoid or ovoid , is
slightly compressed to 1 ～ 2 cm long , ca.1 cm in
diam., with 2 to 4 sheaths outside , and sheaths are
pale brown and lanceolate , 1.5 ～ 8 cm long , 6 ～ 11
mm wide in acumination.Leaves usually 3 , gradu-
ally narrowing towards base.Leaf blade slightly
shining , and coriaceous.Oblanceolate , 5 ～ 20 cm
long , 1.2～ 1.8 cm wide in acumination.Petiole 4
～ 9 cm long , 2 ～ 3 mm wide , v-shaped , grooved
ventrally.Scape arising from the base of a pseudob-
ulb , ca.22 cm long , loosely 4-flowered.Bracts
linear-lanceolate , 5 ～ 7 mm long , 1.5 ～ 2.5 mm
wide.Pedicel and ovary 2.6 ～ 2.9 cm long , and
greenish.Flowers 3 ～ 4 cm across , pale greenish-
yellowish with 5 obsurely pale greenish nerves on
sepals and petals , a central brownish-pruple line on
lower half of petals , brownish-purple markings on
side-lobes and mid-lobe of lip , and brownish-purple
ventral surface of column.Sepals oblong-spathulate
or narrowly obovate-oblong , 2.7 ～ 3.1 cm long , 5
～ 7 mm wide , and acute and mucronate at apex.
Petals narrowly elliptic-oblong , more or less clasp-
ing the column , 2.2 ～ 2.4 cm long , 7.5 ～ 8.5 mm
wide , obtuse.Lip ovate in outline , ca.1.5 cm
long , 3-lobed.side-lobes erect , semiovate-oblong
and enclosing the column.Mid-lobe broadly ovate-
oblong or broadly ovate , 7.5 ～ 9 mm long , 5.5 ～ 6
mm wide , and recurved , shortly acuminate at apex.
Callus ridges 2 , running from the disc to the base of
mid-lobe.Flowering period is in November.
　Cultivated in the Wutongshan Nurseries , Shenz-

　New species almost intermediate between Cym-
bidium lancifolium Hook.and Cymbidium ensifoli-
um (L.)Sw., and probably spring from the hy-
bridization of these species , from which the former
differs by having cylindric pseudobulbs 3 ～ 15 cm
long , scape 8 ～ 20 cm long and bracts 10 ～ 15 mm
long , and the latter differs by having sword-like
leaves 30 ～ 60 cm long without a petiole at base ,
and scape (20 ～ )25 ～ 40 cm long.
　New species is widespread and lies in southern
Sichuan with C.ensifolium and C.lancifolium.
After being introduced into cultivation in Wutongs-
han Nurseries , it is found easy to be cultivated and
cloned.
