Abstract:The root growth of Vicia faba under different concentrations of CdCl2solutions (0.1-10.0ppm) was restrained to various degrees after 24-48 hours of treatment. Effects were also found on the mitosis of root tip cells. It indicated the degrees of toxicity, e.g. lower toxicity caused C-mitosis, higher toxicity caused breakage, stickiness and fluidization of the chromosomes. The mechanism of the toxicity of Cd++ in cell division was discussed briefly.
