菌新种,寸草黑粉菌 Ustilago duriusculae。此种与寄生在禾本科植物上的条形黑粉菌(Ustilago striiformis)
近似,其区别是寄生植物属于不同的科。

INTRODUCTION
A smut fungus on the leaves of Carex duriuscula subsp. rigescens was collected in Qinghai Province in
2004. There are several known genera of smut fungi on Carex in the world (Vánky, 2002), e.g. Anthracoidea,
Entorrhiza, Farysia, Moreaua, Orphanomyces, Planetella, Schizonella, Tolyposporium and Urocystis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Pressed and dried smutted specimen of Carex duriuscula C.A. Mey subsp. rigescens S.Y. Liang et Y.C.
Tang was studied. For light microscopy (LM), dried ustilospores were rehydrated in a droplet of lactophenol by
gently heating to boiling point under a coverslip. For scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dried ustilospores
were dusted on double-sided adhesive tape, fixed on specimen stubs, sputter coated with gold, ca. 20 nm and
studied with a FEI Quanta 200. The specimen examined is deposited in the Mycological Herbarium, Institute of
Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (HMAS) and Herbarium Ustilaginales Vánky (HUV).
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Sori in the leaves of Carex duriuscula subsp. rigescens form longitudinal striae between the veins, ca.
3-7.5 cm long and 0.2-0.3 mm wide. At first they are covered by the epidermis which later ruptures to expose
the ustilospores and the leaves are splitting. The ustilospores are single, not in pairs or in balls. Single
ustilospores occur in species of Anthracoidea, Entorrhiza, Farysia, Orphanomyces and Planetella. The present

smut is quite different from these genera. It is close to Ustilago striiformis (Westend.) Niessl on Poaceae from
which it differs in parasitizing different host family.

Jian-Yun for reading the manuscript and many valuable suggestions, to Prof. Liang Song-Jun (Institute of
Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences) for identifying the host plant, and to Mr. Zhao Xiao-Ping and Mrs. Xie
