a new species of Ericaceae from Hunan, China

Abstract A new species of the Ericaceae, Rhododendron tianmenshanense C. L. Peng & L.
H. Yan, which was found to grow in forest in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province, China, was
described and illustrated. The new species is similar to R. aganniphum Blaf. f. & K. Ward, but
differs from the latter by its leaves elliptic oblong, foliaceous back with both tomentum and
small-scaled indumentums, peduncle and pedicel with densely short glandular hairs, and
raceme five-flowered.

摘要 报道了中国湖南天门山国家森林公园内发现的杜鹃花科Ericaceae杜鹃花属Rhododendron一新种
——天门山杜鹃R. tianmenshanense C. L. Peng & L. H. Yan。该种与雪山杜鹃R. aganniphum Balf. f. & K.
Ward近似, 但以叶为长圆状椭圆形, 叶背具两层毛被, 上层为银白色短绒毛, 下层为紧贴的鳞片状细
毛, 总花梗和花梗具密而短的腺毛, 花常5朵组成总状花序而不同。该种隶属常绿杜鹃组大理杜鹃亚组
sect. Ponticum subsect. Talienisa。

2006年春, 作者在湖南省张家界市天门山国家森林公园植物考察中, 在海拔约1400
m的常绿落叶阔叶林中采集到一物种。该物种为小乔木, 林下更新良好, 一株成年植株下
可见数十株小苗。该种4月中下旬开花, 花白色至淡红色, 常5朵成总状花序生于枝顶。
经研究, 该种为杜鹃花属Rhododendron L.常绿杜鹃组大理杜鹃亚组sect. Ponticum G. Don
subsect. Talienisa (Tagg) Sleumer一新种。

Species proxima R. agannipho Balf. f. & K. Ward, sed foliis oblongo-ellipticis, subtus
venutinis et lepidotis, inflorescentiis racemosis paucifloris, saepe 5-floris, pedicillis
glanduloso-pubescentibus differt.
Frutex vel arbuscula, sempervirens, 2–4 m alta; ramuli hornotini flavo-brunnei,
glabrescentes, annotini 5 mm diam. Folia coriacea, persistentia, oblongo- elliptica, 4.8–6.2 cm
longa, 1.8–2.5 cm lata, apice abrupte acuta, basi late cuneata, margine integra, recurvata, supra
atroviridia, subtus argenteo-venutina et adpresse lepidota, margine paulo revolute, costa media
supra impressa, subtus elevata, nervis lateralibus utrinsecus 21–25 supra leviter depressis
subtus obscuris; petioli 1.0–1.5 cm longi. Inflorescentia breviter racemosa, terminalis, saepe
5-flora; pedunculus 2.0–3.0 mm longus, dense breviter flavo-glanduloso-pubescens; pedicelli
1.2–1.8 cm longi, dense breviter flavo-glanduloso-pubescentes; calyx cyathiformis, circ. 2 mm
longus, 5-lobatus, lobis ovatis, glanduloso-pubescentibus; corolla infundibuliformi-
campanulata, 2.8–3.2 cm longa, alba vel rubella, intus purpureo-rubro-maculata in parte
superiore et basi puberula, 5-lobata, lobis subrotundatis 1.2–3.0 cm longis et 1.5–1.7 cm latis
apice emarginatis; stamina 10, inaequalia, 1.0–2.1 cm longa, filamentis albis ad basin

albo-puberulis, antheris anguste ellipticis circ. 1.5 mm longis fulvis; pistillum corollae
subaequilogum, ovario ovoideo-conico 3–4 mm longo dense glanduloso-puberulo, stylo 2.6
cm longo glabro haud exserto, stigmate capitato. Capsula oblongo-cylindrica, circ. 2 cm longa
et 5 mm diam., ovoideus Fl. Apr. –Mai. Fr. Aug.–Sept.
China. Hunan (湖南): Zhangjiajie (张家界), Tianmen Shan (天门山), alt. 1400 m, in
forest, 2006-04-25, C. L. Peng & H. Q. Huang (彭春良, 黄宏全) 20060008 (holotype, HFBG
(湖南省森林植物园标本室)).
常绿灌木至小乔木, 高2–4 m; 当年生小枝黄褐色, 无毛, 小枝直径5 mm。叶革质,
长圆状椭圆形, 长4.8–6.2 cm, 宽1.8–2.5 cm, 先端急尖, 基部宽楔形, 边缘全缘, 反卷,
上面暗绿色, 无毛, 微有皱纹, 下面具毛被2层, 上层薄海绵状, 银白色, 下层紧贴叶片,
中脉在上面凹入, 在下面突起, 侧脉9–11对, 在上面凹入, 在下面隐藏在毛被内; 叶柄长
1.5 cm, 无毛。顶生短总状花序, 花常5朵, 花序总梗长2–3 mm, 密被黄色短腺毛, 花梗长
1.2–1.8 cm, 密被黄色短腺毛; 花萼小, 杯状, 长约2 mm, 5裂, 裂片卵形, 被腺毛; 花冠
漏斗状钟形, 长2.8–3.2 cm, 白色或淡红色, 内部上方具紫红色斑点, 内面基部具微毛,
裂片5, 近圆形, 长1.2–3.0 cm, 宽1.5–1.7 cm, 顶端微缺; 雄蕊10枚, 不等长, 长1.0–2.1
cm, 花丝白色, 基部被白色微柔毛, 花药狭椭圆形, 黄褐色, 长约1.5 mm; 雌蕊与花冠近
等长, 子房卵球状, 圆锥形, 长3–4 mm, 密被短腺毛, 花柱长2.6 cm, 无毛, 不伸出花冠,
柱头头状, 膨大, 黄绿色。蒴果圆柱状, 长约2 cm, 直径约5 mm。花期4–5月, 果期8–9月。
本种与雪山杜鹃R. aganniphum Balf. f. & K. Ward近似, 不同之处是本种叶长圆状椭
圆形, 下面有银白色短绒毛被层及紧贴的鳞片状细毛, 总状花序具少数花, 常5朵, 花梗
具腺毛, 而相区别。
