Abstract:In order to investigate the pathogens for instructing agricultural production, the pathogens which caused root rot of processing tomato were isolated from diseased processing tomato from seeding stage to fruit ripening stage in the different main production areas. Pythium isolates were identified according to the morphological features of culture and the ITS sequence analyzed of rDNA of representative strains. The results showed that 162 samples of root rot diseased tomato plant were collected and 120 isolates were obtained. Ninety-three of these, 77.5% of the total isolates, belong to Pythium which was the main pathogen for root rot of processing tomato in Xinjiang. These isolates were identified to class into three different species, Pythium aphanidermatum (Edson) Fitzp, P.monospermum Pringsheim and P.acanthicum Drechsler. P.aphanidermatum is 56 strains, accounted for 60.22%, P.monospermum is 6 strains, accounted for 6.45% and P.acanthicum is 2 strains, accounted for 2.15% in the total Pythium isolates. Other 29 strains of Pythium isolates could not be identified due to no oogonium and sporangia induced.
