Abstract:The resistance mechanisms of indoxacarb-selected population of common cutworm, Spodoptera litura (Fabricius), with resistance ratio of 15.63, were investigated by enzyme assays of esterases (ESTs), glutathione S-transferases (GSTs)and microsomal multifunctional oxidase(MFO)and cloning and sequencing of sodium channel gene. The results showed that the activity of ESTs increased by 2.27-fold compared with the susceptible population, while the activities of MFO and GSTs had no significant difference. Positive correlation was observed between ESTs activity in 3rd larvae of every selected generation and resistance ratio. DNA fragments of 341bp in length in the IIS5-IIS6 region of sodium channel para-orthologous gene were amplified and sequenced in both resistant and susceptible population, no sodium channel mutation was found in the resistant population compared with the susceptible population.
