Abstract:Apomixis provides an unique opportunity to fix and utilize hybrid vigor. A number of research programmes around the world have tried to use apomixis as an important plant_breeding tool. This paper presents recent advances in study on apomixis in monocotyledonous plant. Different types of apomixis are described, namely diplospory and ap
ospory. Its distribution in monocotyledons, embryology, molecular markers and genetic basis of apomixis are outlined. Some ideas in relation to research of apomixis were suggested.
