Abstract:Rice false smut became one of the most important rice diseases in Sichuan and southern China in recent years. The resistance of 56 indica hybrid rice varieties to rice false smut was monitored under the same soil and cultivation conditions by using Ustilaginoidea virens inoculation and the relationship between the rice heading period, morphological characters and the resistance of varieties was discussed in this study. The results showed that there was significant difference between the different varieties. The diseased panicle rate was from 0.43% to 33.04% morphological characters revealed that there was positive relationship between the plant height and the disease index was from 0.05 to 16.14. The diseased panicle rate varied with different heading dates and the disease index was different from different varieties even at the same heading date. The results of rice resistance of varieties and the correlation coefficients of them reach significant level (r=0.26, P<0.05). There had some relationship between the correlation of the tillers rate, the effective ear, the length, width, and angle of flag leaf and the resistance of varieties but not achieved significant level (P>0.05). In additional, there has no direct relationship among the plant types and leaf color.
