Abstract:"Ying-Chen" is a famous chinense traditional medicine, which original plant is recorded as Artemisia capillaris Thunb. (Compositae). In the south of China especially Yunnan province, Siphonostegia chinensis Benth., a scrophularious plant, Chinese name as Jin-Zong-Ying-Chen is always used as a substitute of Ying-Chen. Through ancient Chinese medicinal references, this paper describe the utilize history and medicinal value of this plant. In other hand, a chemical study of this plant was carried out. From whole plant of Siphonostegia chinensis, a new iridoidal glucoside together with two known glycosides, 8-epiloganin and acteoside were isolated. The structrue of new compound was elucidated as 10-p-coumaroyl aucubin by means of spectral and chemical methods.
