Abstract:The litter fall of Bruguiera sexangula mangrove community in Hegang Village of Hainan Island has been studied for a period of 4 years form 1984 to 1987.The results showed that: (1) Mean annual litter fall production was 1255 g/m2 in this well-protected mangrove forest, which is one of the most productive tropical communities in litter production. This amount of litter fall is of a higher level as compared with those of other mangrove forests in the world. (2) The leaf, flower, fruit and twig litter fall proportions in the 4 years were 64.32%, 10.63%, 21.34% and 3.71% respectively. (3) The regression equation of monthly litter fall (Y,g/m2) and monthly mean air temperature (X,℃) was Y=5.009X–13.18 (r=0.44, df= 46) showing a greatly significant relation. (4) Litter fall yearly fluctuation rate R= 1.33.
