Abstract:The basic conception of the transfer cell is introduced. The different locations of transfer cells in reproduction systems of higher plants, discovered up to date, are recorded also. Transfer cells in the region of the liverwort placenta, in the microspores and pollen grains, in the transmitting tissue of the stigma and stylar canal, in the seed coat and cotyledons were discribed as examples specialized in relation to short distance transport of solute. Last, advances in studies of the transfer cells, including the employment of new techniques, the new conception and genes expressed in the transport membrane were summerized.
