Abstract:HKT1 and HAK1 transporters mediates high_affinity K+ uptake and K+/Na+ co_transport, which can enhance the substitution of Na+ for K+. KAT1 and KST1 channels mediate K+ accumulation, which can regulate the osmotic pressure in stomotal cells and control the movement of stomata. We present a putative relationship between the membrane transport systems and potassium use efficiency in plants.
The quantity and quality of expression of the above transporter or channels may greatly correlate with potassium use efficiency in plants.
