Abstract:Under the simulated conditions, this study explored the effect of different densities of Mongolian gerbils, Meriones unguiculatus, on spring wheat. Tests were carried out in Rodent Monitoring Experiment Station, Wanquan County, Hebei Province. The result shown that there are two kinds of situation between different densities of Mongolian gerbils and the effect of wheat growth: on lower-density group (I, II), wheat growth was more than or equal to the gerbils browsing amount, which the gerbil browsing to stimulate the growth of wheat; on high-density group (III, IV), wheat loss is much higher than their own growth and that has not compensated for. When the density ≤4 voles/100m2, Mongolian gerbil could stimulate wheat growth, and in this density wheat is the highest yield (2780.32kg/hm2) and compensate growth. In lower density of the gerbils in farmland is conducive to the growth of wheat. Wheat under conditions of low-density rat can compensate for the growth and reduce losses. When density of rodents over the average, the wheat production declined; and the higher density of rodents, the more loss of wheat.
