Abstract:In order to enhance the efficiency of monitoring red wheat blossom midge, Sitodiplosis mosellana (Géhin), the trapping effects of sticky cards in 14 colors and hanging heights of three with cards colored in purple and yellow were studied in the field in Xushui County, Hebei Province from 2009 to 2011. The results showed that the numbers of S.mosettana adults trapped by sticky cards colored in purple, peach pink, orange-red, orange, light pink were significantly higher than those by the rest kinds of cards. The number of S.mosettana adults trapped by the purple cards showed a significant difference from that by the yellow cards, which was widely used in monitoring pests. Meanwhile the numbers of flies trapped by the purple cards were significantly lower than that by the yellow one. Results at three heights indicated that the numbers of S.mosettana adults trapped was significant higher when the sticky cards were hung at the lower part of the plants compared to be hung at the middle and upper heights. In addition, the numbers of S.mosettana adults trapped by the purple cards was significantly higher than that by the yellow cards at the same height. These results indicated that purple cards could be used to monitor S.mosettana adult population dynamics, and the optimum height to be hung was at the lower part of the plants with the lower edge of the cards closed to the soil surface.
