Abstract:InordertorevealtheecologicalroleofantcommunitiesinsoutheasternTibet,antcommunitiesof11
sampleplotsfromMountDemulaandBomiValeywereinvestigatedwithsampleplotandsearchcolectingmethods.
Intotal,27speciesbelongingto3subfamiliesand10generaofFormicidaearerecognized,inwhichmostarerare
species.Theresultsshowedthatthespeciesnumbersinthesampleplotsrangedbetween0 11(59inaverage),
theindividualdensitiesrangedbetween0 17062heads·m-2(2707heads·m-2inaverage),thediversityin
dexesrangedbetween03461 12073(07953inaverage),theevennessindexesrangedbetween02150
07703(04746inaverage),andthedominantindexesrangedbetween03835 08119(05784inaver
age).Thedatashowedthat,ingeneral,theindividualdensitiesdecreasedwiththealtituderising.Speciesnum
bersfromplotsatmiddlepositionwerelowerthanthoseatupperandlowerpositionsofthemountainslope.Noregu
larchangeswerefoundfortheindexesofdiversity,evennessanddominance,however,theevennessindexes
showedanegativecorelationwiththedominantindexes.Thesephenomenashowedthatthediversityandstabilityof
antcommunitiesmaybeinfluencedbyaltitude,landformsandvegetationsituations.Similarityanalysisshowedsig
nificantdiferencesbetweenantcommunitiesfromdiferentplots,whichwelresponsedtothesignificantdiference
inecologicalhabitatsofMountDemula.
