Abstract:Starting from the concept of taper equation，the formulation of taper equation has been studied deeply，and considering the two problems existed currently in esta blishment of merchantable volume table，the general formula of optimal taperequation is presented in this paper．As an example，the special expression of optimal taper equation for Chinese fir in Hunan province is established furthermore．It is shown that the new model has advantages over all taper equations published before．
