(N0,N51.75,N103.50)wereapplied,andtheeffectofnitrogenfertilizerondrymatterandnitrogenaccu
mulationinalfalfaandavailableNandtotalNinsoilwerestudied.Theresultsweresummarizedasfol
lows:Nitrogenimprovedthenorthwestdesertalfalfamatteraccumulationintheirrigationarea.Drymatter
accumulationandnitrogenaccumulationinalfalfaincreasedwiththeincreaseofNapplication.Byregres
sionanalysis,Nlevelanddrymatteraccumulationornitrogenaccumulationdatafittoaquadraticequation
withonevariable.Drymatteraccumulationandnitrogenaccumulationreachedthehighestonthe103.50
kg·hm-2level;Nitrogensignificantlyimprovedalkalinehydrolysisnitrogencontentofalfalfafieldinirri
gationareaofthenorthwestdesert.ThestudysuggestedthattheoptimumNlevelinalfalfainGansuProv
incewas103.50kg·hm-2.Toachievehigheryieldofalfalfa,wesuggestapplyingnitrogenaftereachhar
vest(orcutting).
