Abstract:Endosperm of Actinidia chinensis var. chinensis and A. chinensis var. hispida were used as experimental materials. Exised endosperms were planted on mediumMS+Zeatin3 ppm+2, 4-D 0.5ppm+CH 400 ppm, white, friable and loose calluses were induced from endosperms. When the calluses were transferred on MS medium supplemented with Ⅰ ppm Zeatin and 400ppm CH, embryoids were produced about two weeks after inoculation, then normal plantlets with radicles and plumules emerged.Histocytological observations on embryogenesis showed that the embryoid in endosperm callus was originated from individual cell in callus. When calluses were transferred into differentiation medium, some cells in calluses were initiated and formed proembryoids and plantlets were further developed via globular embryoids and heart-shaped embryoids et al.The endosperm of Chinese gooseberry belongs to cellular type and the embryoid derived from individual cell, inside the callus. This way of origination is different from the usual way of initiation which is originated from the surface of callus.
