Abstract: A species of the genus Thalictrum (Ranunculaceae)ꎬ T􀆰 cuonaenseꎬ is described as new from Xizang Autono ̄
mous Regionꎬ China. The diagnostic differences between the new species and its closest allyꎬ T􀆰 reniformeꎬ are given.

Ob sepala majoriaꎬ staminum filamenta filiform ̄
iaꎬ antheras linearesꎬ carpella carpophoris brevibus
praedita et ovaria glanduloso ̄puberula species nova
haec est affinis T􀆰 reniformi Wall.ꎬ quod caulibusꎬ
foliolorum paginis abaxialibusꎬ thyrsorum rhachidi ̄
bus et pedicellis glanduloso ̄ puberulisꎬ sepalis roseis
facile differt.
Perennial herbs. Stems 1 - 1􀆰 5 m tallꎬ at the
middle part ca. 9 mm acrossꎬ glabrousꎬ smoothꎬ
branched. Cauline leaves 2 ̄pinnateꎬ 6-25 cm longꎬ
long or shortly petiolateꎬ glabrousꎻ blades triangular
in outlineꎬ 5-20 cm longꎻ pinnae 3 pairsꎬ the low ̄
est pinna 5 - 7 ̄foliolateꎬ the upper pinnae 3 ̄folio ̄
lateꎻ leaflets paperyꎬ orbicular ̄ovate or depressed ̄
orbicularꎬ 0􀆰 6-3􀆰 3 × 0􀆰 7-3􀆰 7 cmꎬ at base subcor ̄
dateꎬ 3 ̄lobedꎬ lobes at apex roundedꎬ minutely mu ̄
cronate and at margin 1-2 ̄dentateꎬ 1-2 ̄crenate or
entireꎻ surfaces abaxially glaucousꎻ nervation 3-5 ̄
nervedꎬ with nerves adaxially flatꎬ abaxially incon ̄
spicuously prominentꎻ petioles 0􀆰 8 - 18 cm longꎬ
base narrowly vaginate. Thyrses terminalꎬ ca. 16 cm
longꎬ multi ̄floweredꎻ rachis and pedicels glabrousꎻ
bracts very shortly petiolateꎬ glabrousꎬ ternateꎬ with
leaflets narrowly ellipticꎬ 1􀆰 5-5 mm longꎬ or sim ̄
pleꎬ long elliptic or lanceolateꎬ 1-6 mm longꎻ pedi ̄
cels 0􀆰 9-1􀆰 5 cm long. Flower ca. 2􀆰 5 cm in diam.
Sepals 4ꎬ whiteꎬ ovateꎬ narrowly ovate or ellipticꎬ
10- 12 × 3􀆰 5 - 7 mmꎬ longitudinally 5 - 9 ̄nervedꎬ
glabrous. Stamens ca. 18ꎬ ca. 9 mm longꎬ glabrousꎻ
filaments filiformꎻ anthers narrowly linearꎬ ca. 4􀆰 2
mm longꎬ apex mucronate. Carpels 8 - 11ꎻ ovaries
strongly compressedꎬ obliquely obovateꎬ ca. 1􀆰 2 mm
longꎬ densely minutely glandular ̄puberulousꎬ base
narrowed into carpophores ca. 0􀆰 8 mm longꎻ styles
ca. 2􀆰 5 mm longꎬ subglabrousꎬ adaxially with linear
stigmas.

grassland on slopeꎬ plants 1-1􀆰 5 m tallꎬ fls. whiteꎬ
1981-10-04ꎬ Z􀆰 J. Ren (任再金) L364 (holotypeꎬ PE).
In having larger sepalsꎬ filiform filamentsꎬ line ̄
ar anthersꎬ and carpels with short carpophores and
glandular ̄puberulous ovaries this species is related
to Thalicrtum reniforme Wall.ꎬ and differs in its gla ̄
brous stemsꎬ leafletsꎬ thyrse rachis and pedicels and
in its white sepals. In T􀆰 reniformeꎬ the stemsꎬ abax ̄
ial surfaces of leafletsꎬ thyrse rachis and pedicels are
all glandular ̄puberulousꎬ and the sepals are pink in
colour (Wang and Wangꎬ 1979).
