Abstract:By studying ancient and modern literatures and observing the material object, we have come to the conclusion that the fruit called "Luohuangzi" in ancient times should be the seed of Sterculia nobilis rather than Tamarindus indica. We therefore suggest that "Luohuangzi" be no longer used as another name for T. indica, and, in order to eliminate the confusion about the name and material object of "Luohuangzi". Tamarindus should be called the "genus Shuandou" in Chinese instead of the "genus Luowangzi".
