Abstract:With the use of fluorescent microscopy, the histological features of Puccinia triticina on a susceptible host Thatcher and near isogenic line TcLr41 resistant to wheat leaf rust were studied to understand the mechanism of wheat resistance to leaf rust. By comparison, no significant differences of wheat leaf rust on different lines were found through histological studies before 24h post inoculation. However, the hypersensitive reaction only appeared in TcLr41 after 36h post inoculation. The hypersensitive reaction produced speedily at 48h post inoculation and restrained the growth rate of infection hyphae. No hypersensitive reaction was found in susceptible host Thatcher.
