Abstract:A laboratory incubation method and a pot culture experiment were conducted with the objective of investigating the phosphorus efficiency of sewage sludge and decreasing the environmental risk due to the accumulation of P in soils. After sewage application, soil available phosphorus and total phosphorus absorbed by Chinese cabbage (Brassica penkinensis) are significantly (P<0.05) lower than those of only applying with monoammonium phosphate (MAP) or chicken manure. Soil phosphatase activities and available P at late growth stage of Chinese cabbage are increased under the sewage sludge application. The content of residual Olsen P which applied with single sewage sludge significantly is higher than that of applying with sewage sludge and MAP mixed when the yields of Chinese cabbage have no significant difference. When applying amount of P2O5 is 90-270 kg/ha, the phosphorus efficiency of sewage sludge is 25% of that of MAP.
