Abstract:Begulating effects of Shouerkang prescription on the stress in old rats were repored. 40 12 month old S.D ratso were randomly divided into four groups: normal group (N), stress control group(S), groups Shouerkang Ⅰ and Ⅱ ( Ⅰ and Ⅱ). The stress model was established by means of swimming in cold water. The results are as follows:the prescription may keep the blood glucose and glycogen value on stress in higher levels, but the latter shows no significant difference. The contents of vitamine C and cholesterin in the adrenals in rats of group Ⅰ and Ⅱ are lower than those of group N and S. The 5-HT in the brain of group Ⅱ is increased (Ⅱvs. N or S, p<0.05). The results suggest that the prescription can accelerate the metabolism, stimulate synthesis and secretion of cortisone, and regulate responsibility to stress in old rats. The ef fect in Shouerkang Ⅱ might be associated with the increase of 5-HT.
