Abstract:Young trees of Cathaya argyrophylla grew well in terms of height growth in partial shade condition while less height growth under overshade condition, leading to death finally. The growth process of C. argyrophylla can be devided into 4 stages. The flouring DBH growth was obvious between the age of 30 to 80 years. 60 percent of the aboveground biomass of a sample Cathaya tree was allocated to the portion of below the half tree height. The trunk weighted over 2/3 of the total aboveground biomass. The aboveground biomass of C. argyrophylla population greatly differed among community types and varied from 33000 to 117000 kg·hm-2.
