Abstract:Fecundity of aphid Aphis gossypii, the amount of foliar soluble sugar and free amino acids in cucumber were studied under different nitrogen solution levels to explore the relationships between nitrogen fertilizer application and cucumber aphid fecundity. The results showed that the fecundity of aphid was significantly higher on 210mg/L and 280mg/L nitrogen solution levels than that on 70mg/L and 140mg/L nitrogen solution levels. Intrinsic rate of increase, single female daily fecundity, net value-added rate and the mount of population increase were the lowest on 140mg/L nitrogen level. With the increase of nitrogen solution levels, the contents of foliar soluble sugar and soluble amino acid of cucumber changed significantly that the total amount of 16 kinds of soluble amino acid increased while the content of soluble sugar decreased. Intrinsic rate of increase of cucumber aphid was significantly correlated with the ratio of the increase amount of foliar free amino acids to the control, while significantly negative correlated with the amount of soluble sugar. The results indicated that different nitrogen fertilization affected fecundity and population growth of aphid by changing the amount of foliar soluble amino acids and soluble sugar.
