Abstract:The partial sequence of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunitⅠ (COⅠ) of fire ant (SHCIQFA1-2) intercepted in logs from Argentina in 2007, was amplified and sequenced in order to identify the species. The result of sequence analysis showed that the similarity of CO Ⅰ gene sequence is 92.96%-98.39% between SHCIQFA1-2 and S.interrupta, and sequence similarity of 95.85%, 93.84% and 87.18% with S.saevissima (AY950779), S.invicta (EU311556) and S.geminate (AY254489), respectively. The phylogenetic relationship tree from COⅠgene sequence revealed the fire ant (SHCIQFA1-2) and S.interrupta were in the same subgroup. The fire ant (SHCIQFA1-2) was identified as S.interrupta based on the morphological characteristics, sequence analysis and phylogenetic relationships.
